When a hydraulic cylinder rod is too bent, scored, pitted or damaged to reuse, Protech can machine a replacement rod from new chrome-plated hydraulic rod stock and reproduce the features needed for the cylinder assembly.
The chrome surface on a hydraulic cylinder rod is part of the sealing system. Deep scoring, corrosion pits or a bent rod can damage new seals and cause a freshly resealed cylinder to leak again.
When the original rod is no longer a good candidate for reuse, Protech can manufacture a new replacement from chrome-plated hydraulic cylinder rod stock. The original rod, cylinder assembly, drawing or dimensional information can be used to determine the required geometry.
A bent rod can side-load the gland and seals, making a simple reseal unlikely to last.
Surface damage that passes through the rod seal can quickly wear or cut the sealing lip.
Custom machining can provide a repair path when the exact OEM rod is discontinued, delayed or not sold separately.
A new rod can be quoted as a stand-alone machining job or incorporated into a complete hydraulic cylinder repair. That allows the rod condition, seals and other cylinder components to be evaluated together instead of treating the damaged chrome surface as a separate problem.
Often, yes. The original rod can provide critical dimensions and features for a replacement. The shop will need to inspect the part and cylinder design before confirming the repair approach.
If the rod surface is deeply pitted, scored or bent, replacing the rod can prevent the damaged surface from immediately wearing the new seals.
Yes. Replacement rod manufacturing can be quoted together with cylinder disassembly, seal replacement and the other repair work the cylinder requires.
Send the application details, photos, drawings or CAD files and we’ll review the job before pricing it.
